Ocean Park concluded this year’s giant panda mating season, and the Giant Panda Adventure exhibit will be reopened to the public tomorrow, 26 August 2017.
Since early July, Ying Ying has started displaying some typical pregnancy symptoms, including reduced food intake, increased resting time, and corresponding hormonal changes, but these symptoms started to diminish recently. She has resumed spending more time awake and active, and is regaining her appetite gradually. Her hormonal levels have also returned to baseline levels. After detailed review and discussion with experts, it is confirmed that Ying Ying’s pregnancy symptoms have disappeared gradually. Nevertheless, this is not unexpected as panda pregnancies are filled with unknowns, and pseudo-pregnancies are often experienced.
Ocean Park will continue to work closely with experts from China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda to provide the best husbandry care to our giant pandas, and look forward to welcoming our first giant panda cub in the future.
