Ocean Park spreads holiday cheer with a special celebration featuring the new giant pandas, An An and Ke Ke. In the spirit of the season, the Park's diverse animal ambassadors are also partaking in festive merriment through a range of Christmas-themed enrichments prepared by their caretakers.
Panda duo embracing their new environment
An An and Ke Ke are joyously celebrating their first Christmas in Hong Kong. Their caretakers have prepared for them a custom-designed Christmas tree made with the pandas' favourite bamboo, and a wowotou as the shiny star. Moreover, exquisite ice sculptures adorned with decorations crafted from carrots and purple potatoes, along with charming snowmen sculpted from ice, are adding to the holiday spirit for An An and Ke Ke.
The Park’s animal caretakers shared that the two giant pandas have adapted well to their new environment at the Park and enjoy interacting with enrichment items including climbing structures and toys, such as puzzle feeders in different sizes and shapes.
The team has developed a specialised husbandry training programme for the two pandas according to their pace. With target training and desensitisation training as the core components, the programme aims to encourage the animal’s voluntary participation in medical exams, such as blood pressure measurement, blood draws and ultrasounds, without the need for anaesthesia.
Apart from the duo, the animal care team at Ocean Park has prepared a delightful snowman, ice sculptures, and an ice Christmas tree featuring carrots for giant panda Le Le.
Meanwhile, Ying Ying and the twin cubs are savouring a distinctive celebration, as Ying Ying takes pleasure in the charming ice sculptures filled with her favourite foods, while the adorable twins gleefully indulge in Christmas packs filled with plush toys.
The cubs are growing rapidly and can hear now. The elder sister loves exploring her surroundings and will play with the toys and things around her as soon as she wakes up. The little brother, on the other hand, is gentle with toys and likes to interact with his caretakers as he crawls around.
Animal ambassadors embracing holiday cheer in their own special style
In the midst of these joyful festivities, the Park’s animal caretakers are finding creative ways to celebrate with various animal ambassadors.
In the Panda Village, the playful little otters delight in the presence of a beautifully adorned ice Christmas tree, adding a touch of seasonal magic to their adorable antics.
At The Grand Aquarium, a festive touch has been added to the home of the pufferfish with a charming Christmas wreath, sparking curiosity in the inquisitive pufferfish known as ‘Fat Ball’ (肥波).
Over at the South Pole Spectacular, the penguin family is gleefully engaging with a festive and colourful snowman, spreading joy throughout their icy habitat.
The Arctic foxes at the Arctic Fox Den merrily engage in play within a newly crafted ice igloo and colourful ice sculpture, savouring spirited games of hide and seek.

Animal caretakers at the Rainforest have prepared a veggie Christmas tree for May the capybara, bringing a cheerful touch to her habitat.
